Renault is gearing up to introduce a more practical version of its popular SUV, and this time it’s coming with an extra row of seats. The 7-seater Renault Duster, currently under development with the codename ‘Project Boreal,’ was recently spotted testing in Brazil. The test mule hints at a production-ready version, and reports suggest that the launch could take place as early as July 2025 in the Latin American market, with production expected to begin shortly after.

This upcoming SUV is said to be based on the Dacia Bigster platform and is likely to carry forward a boxier, more upright stance. The design language looks more muscular, with thick body cladding, a larger rear overhang for added cabin space, and newly designed alloy wheels – probably 19-inch units. The proportions look well balanced and give off a rugged yet refined vibe, staying true to Duster’s tough character but adding a more family-friendly dimension.

Inside, the new Duster is expected to bring a host of premium upgrades. The dashboard layout could be inspired by the Dacia Bigster and is likely to feature a large 10-inch digital instrument cluster along with an infotainment screen of the same size. Comfort and convenience features are expected to take a big leap, with the possibility of dual-zone climate control, a factory-fitted 8.6-litre refrigerator, a panoramic sunroof, and a powered tailgate – features that would make the cabin feel significantly more upmarket than the current-gen Duster.

Under the hood, the 7-seater Renault Duster is expected to carry a hybrid powertrain similar to the one seen on the Bigster. This 230V hybrid setup is said to produce 157 bhp and 170 Nm of torque, offering a good mix of performance and efficiency. However, the powertrain for the Indian market may differ, depending on local regulations and customer demand, possibly with turbo-petrol or non-hybrid engine options.
Although Renault India has not officially announced the launch of this new model, test sightings suggest that an updated Duster is under development for our market as well. While some reports claim a launch timeline around late 2025, others hint at a delay pushing it into 2026. One key point to note is that while the Dacia Bigster will be offered as a 5-seater globally, Renault is developing this Duster variant specifically as a 7-seater for markets like Latin America and possibly India.
