5G Speed

The iPhone 16 series stands out with exceptional 5G download speeds, outperforming the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 series, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S24 series in several countries. In the U.S., the iPhone 16 achieved a median download speed of 324Mbps, ahead of the Galaxy S24’s 287Mbps. In Canada, the iPhone 16 also led, with a speed of 182Mbps compared to the Galaxy S24’s 156Mbps.

Latency

While the iPhone 16 series showed a clear improvement in 5G latency compared to earlier iPhone models, it lagged behind the Samsung Galaxy S24 in most regions. The iPhone 16 led in latency in only one of the 11 countries tested, while the Galaxy S24 dominated latency performance, taking the lead in eight of those countries.

Upload Speeds

In terms of 5G upload speeds, the Samsung Galaxy S24 outpaced the iPhone 16, leading in eight of the 11 countries tested. However, the iPhone 16 series displayed notable improvement in upload speeds compared to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15, which had some of the slowest upload speeds among the tested devices.

Global Testing

The speed and latency tests were conducted across 11 countries: U.S., India, Taiwan, Belgium, France, Germany, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Colombia, and Brazil. With Black Friday approaching, Ookla suggests users in certain regions could benefit significantly from upgrading to the iPhone 16 for improved 5G performance.

Pricing and Availability

While the iPhone 16 series is highly recommended for users in markets such as the U.S. and Canada for its improved 5G performance, potential buyers should also consider other factors like price and features before upgrading. The iPhone 16 series, which includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, is the first to support Apple Intelligence and features like Camera Control, making it a top contender for 5G users globally.
